Here at Orbitist, we're always looking for opportunities to collaborate with others. We've sparked a new partnership... and we've even begun engaging with them on a serious level. In November Nick traveled to CartoDB HQ in Brooklyn, NY to find out if the two could provide benefits to one another. We are happy to announce that we have entered into an agreement to join the CartoDB partners network!
Earlier this month, Nick hit the road to join myself in Brooklyn and attend the two-day CartoDB15 Partner Summit. Orbitist was one of over 50 partner companies in attendance spanning the geospatial field. While I attended a series of business seminars on Thursday, Nick participated in a number of in technical workshops.
One such workshop involved using CartoDB to visualize AirBnB rentals in relation to subway lines in New York City. We brought this visualization over to the Orbitist platform and mapped some points of interest. You can see it embedded below!
Additionally, if you head over to my neighborhood in East Williamsburg you'll notice a map from 1916 courtesy of the New York Public Library that displays what the neighborhood looked like 99 years ago. You can even see where the location of the CartoDB office is! The NYPL warper project is an effort to rectify historical maps to match contemporary ones.
On Friday, partners were treated to a series of talks outlining both the current state and future of location intelligence. Speakers representing Mexico City, Planet Labs, Bloomberg, and more were on hand to discuss their current operations and share plans going forward. For instance, in 2016 Planet Labs intends to have enough satellites in orbit to image the globe on a daily basis, allowing humans to track global change like never before!
We met with partners from all over the world, and made some new friends at companies like Ubilabs and Respec. Make sure to check out the great work they're doing! You can see a complete list of CartoDB partners on their partners page.
We'd like to thank the team at CartoDB for having us in Brooklyn for this amazing event and look forward to productive collaboration in the future.
So where does Orbitist fit in this space? We are, and will always be storytellers at heart. We believe that there is a story contained within every single point of the maps that we look at every day. We believe there is amazing technology all around us to help us tell both global and local stories and we're looking forward to further integrating technology that solves our clients' needs.
We hope you'll continue to follow us along the way!
